International Programs and Services


International Programs and Services (IPS) is dedicated to providing the following services to all incoming international students on F-1 and J-1 visas.

• International admission processing
• Issuance of I-20 and DS-2019 visa documents
• Pre-arrival information documents
• Airport pickup services
• Assistance with housing placement
• New international student Orientation
• Social Security card application assistance
• Intercultural Mentorship Program which links new international students with current Michigan Tech students

All new international students are required to report to the IPS office, located in the Administration Building, Room 131, and submit their immigration documents within three days of their arrival to Houghton, Michigan. They must also attend the International Student Orientation, a special Orientation session offered by the IPS to provide necessary information to new students. This information includes cultural resources, immigration and legal rights and responsibilities, health insurance, how to adjust in a new academic and local culture, and involvement with cultural organizations.
