Orientation
Orientation at Michigan Tech is a time to learn about academics and campus resources, to meet other students, and to get settled before classes begin. Orientation will begin on Sunday, August 26, and continue through Labor Day weekend. Participation in Orientation is required for all new students who are living on or off campus. A detailed information booklet will be mailed to you in late June. If you have Orientation questions, please visit www.orientation.mtu.edu.
During Orientation, you will have the opportunity to interact closely with students on your Orientation team and your Orientation Team Leader (OTL). You’ll also have time to buy your books, get your Tech Express ID card, discover what professors expect, talk to your academic advisor, register for Perspectives, enjoy a workout at the Student Development Complex, get comfortable in your new home, and much more.
Athlete Orientation
If you are a student athlete who plays a fall sport, you will attend Athlete Orientation. This one-day session will allow you to familiarize yourself with Michigan Tech and still have time for practice. Athletes in all other sports will attend the week-long Orientation that begins on August 26. Your coach has information on which Orientation you will be attending. Please contact your coach for more information or if you have questions.Family Orientation
As your student prepares for college life, we recognize that family members also go through a transition. So, starting Sunday evening, August 26, through Monday afternoon, August 27, we offer Parent and Family Orientation. We want to make sure all of your questions have been answered. In addition, a Sibling Orientation is offered these two days for siblings of Tech students in grades K–12.
Don’t forget to purchase your Family Picnic tickets. Michigan Tech students will eat for free, so tickets only need to be purchased for family members who would like to attend the picnic. Children under the age of five also eat for free. For more information see www.orientation.mtu.edu or your Orientation booklet that you will receive in late June.
